Customer lifetime value calculator for service businesses

Average ticket x visits per year x years. Worked example. Planning tool only, with no revenue data imported.

The problem

Retention is not a guessing game

Most service businesses track bookings, not returns. Completed visits tell you who actually comes back. RetentionTek starts with completed visit history, not future appointments.

The CLV formula

Customer Lifetime Value = Average Ticket x Visits Per Year x Average Customer Lifespan (Years). Average Ticket = Total Revenue / Total Visits. Visits Per Year = Total Visits / (Unique Customers x Years of History). Average Customer Lifespan = 1 / Annual Churn Rate. This is a planning tool. RetentionTek does not import revenue data, so it cannot measure actual CLV.

Worked example

A salon with an average ticket of $80, clients visiting 6 times per year, and an average customer lifespan of 3 years: CLV = $80 x 6 x 3 = $1,440. This means each customer is worth approximately $1,440 over their relationship. If you improve retention and extend lifespan to 4 years, CLV rises to $1,920, a $480 increase per customer.

Use with RetentionTek

RetentionTek measures return behavior (first-to-second conversion, return adherence, rebooking rate). Use the Retention Score and the overdue list to identify at-risk clients before they churn. Improving retention extends the average customer lifespan, which directly increases CLV. The calculator helps you model the impact of retention improvements on lifetime value.

Limits

This calculator uses your inputs, so it does not connect to revenue data. RetentionTek imports visit history only (no revenue, no pricing). No measured CLV or recovered-revenue claims are possible from visit records alone. Recorded-to-date customer value describes historical spend; predicted lifetime value is an estimate and needs assumptions.

How it works

From visits to a decision in three steps

01

Import visits

Bring completed visits into a consistent customer record. Review dates, coverage, and the service context.

02

Understand the evidence

Review an explainable score and the return patterns behind it. See what the history supports and where it is incomplete.

03

Choose what happens next

Use the review queue to prioritize attention. A team member reviews the evidence and approves the next step.

RetentionTek's Retention Agent explains the score and supports the review workflow. Reviewing a signal does not automatically contact a customer or book an appointment.

Honest limits

What you should know before you start

SMS is not active

Email drafting and sending from your own inbox are the available channels.

Score withheld under 30 mature customers

The Retention Score is withheld when fewer than 30 mature customers exist per component. You still see the raw visit data and the overdue list.

No automatic sending

Reti drafts messages you edit. You approve the send from your own connected inbox. Nothing sends without your explicit approval.

Not an EMR

RetentionTek does not store medical records, diagnoses, or treatment notes. It works with operational visit data you export from your booking system or POS.

Simple pricing

Core plan: $249 per month or $2,490 per year

Includes the Retention Score, overdue review queue, Reti drafting (10 per workspace per UTC day), CSV and XLSX import, and the 14-day trial with 1,000 email credits (10 credits per email, up to 100 emails). No discount language. No hidden fees.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers

What is the CLV formula?

Customer Lifetime Value = Average Ticket x Visits Per Year x Average Customer Lifespan (Years). Average Ticket = Total Revenue / Total Visits. Visits Per Year = Total Visits / (Unique Customers x Years of History). Average Customer Lifespan = 1 / Annual Churn Rate.

Does RetentionTek measure actual CLV?

No. RetentionTek imports visit history only (no revenue, no pricing). This calculator is a planning tool using your inputs. No measured CLV or recovered-revenue claims are possible from visit records alone.

Can I import revenue data?

Not currently. The import accepts customer identifiers, visit dates, attendance status, location, and service category. Revenue fields are not supported.

How does retention affect CLV?

Improving retention extends the average customer lifespan, which directly increases CLV. The calculator helps you model the impact of retention improvements on lifetime value.

What is recorded versus predicted value?

Recorded-to-date customer value describes historical spend. Predicted lifetime value is an estimate of future value and needs assumptions. Visit records alone do not establish measured revenue or lifetime value.

Does it send messages automatically?

No. Reti drafts a message you edit. You approve the send from your own connected inbox. Nothing sends without your explicit approval.
