RetentionTek vs Zenoti
RetentionTek vs Zenoti
Zenoti is an enterprise operations suite for spa, salon and med spa groups: booking, POS, memberships, payroll, marketing automation. It is quote-only, annual, and reserves the right to raise fees 20% at renewal. RetentionTek is $199, published, monthly, and built for one location with $99 a month per extra site. Zenoti is deeper; we are budgetable.
Where they are strong
Where Zenoti is strong
- Clinical charting for injectables and e-prescribing. We never touch a chart.
- Multi-location depth, memberships, payroll, inventory and POS in one system.
- Global support and a real implementation team, which matters at ten sites.
- 1,297 Capterra reviews against our zero, and a 4.5 rating.
- Marketing automation and AI agents inside the same platform as the calendar.
Where we differ
Where RetentionTek differs
- The price is published. Zenoti publishes no software price and no processing rate, and routes to sales.
- Price certainty. Zenoti can raise fees by up to 20% at renewal, or any time on 60 days' notice. Ours does not change inside a paid period.
- Leaving is 60 days' notice at Zenoti. Ours is a cancel button, any time.
- Fit. Zenoti is overbuilt for one to three locations by its own admission; the cost may exceed the return for a small practice.
- Onboarding is a CSV import, not an implementation. Complaints about Zenoti cluster on sales promises and onboarding, against a BBB grade of F.

Price reality
A price you cannot budget is the real cost
Zenoti is quote-only. Capterra shows a starting figure around $300 a month, and the contract runs per order form, then renews yearly unless 60 days' notice is given. The agreement reserves a fee increase of up to 20% at renewal.
- Reported entry around $300/mo. A 20% renewal uplift takes that to about $360 with no negotiation.
- Over three years, two uplifts at the cap compound to roughly $518/mo on the same scope.
- Leaving requires 60 days' notice, so a decision made in the wrong month costs two more.
- RetentionTek: $199/mo for one location, published, monthly, no uplift clause inside a paid period.
The comparison is not "cheaper". It is "budgetable". A $300 line that can become $360 on the vendor's notice is a different planning object from a $199 line that cannot move until you cancel. Show the arithmetic to your accountant and let them choose.

Zenoti is the system of record. Keep it
If you run a multi-site med spa, Zenoti is probably the right operations system and RetentionTek does not compete with it. Import the completed-visit export and the retention layer sits beside it. The overlap is marketing automation, so check what Zenoti already sends before adding a second sender.
Frequently asked questions
Practical answers
Is RetentionTek a Zenoti alternative?
For retention work, yes. For operations, no. Zenoti runs the business: booking, POS, charting, payroll. RetentionTek answers who was due back and did not come. A single-location spa choosing one system should choose Zenoti; a spa that already has an operations system should not buy a second one.
Can Zenoti really raise my price 20%?
Third-party analyses of the Zenoti agreement report a right to increase fees by up to 20% at renewal, or at any time on 60 days' notice. That is a contract term, not a rumour, so read your own order form. RetentionTek does not change the price inside a paid period.
Why is the BBB grade relevant?
Zenoti carries a BBB grade of F against a 4.5 Capterra rating, with complaints clustering on sales promises, onboarding and refunds. That split is the useful signal: the demo is excellent and the implementation is where buyers get hurt. Budget for the implementation, not just the licence.
Does RetentionTek do charting or e-prescribing?
No. Visits, not charts. We never ask for treatment notes, so we never become a second medical record. For a med spa that already resents its EMR, that is a feature; for one that has no EMR, it is a reason to keep looking.
How long does switching take?
You do not switch. Export completed visits, import the file, and the score appears once enough history exists. There is no data migration project and no downtime, because nothing you already run is being replaced.
What about multi-location groups?
One to three locations is the design centre. Above that the location selector gets thin and Zenoti's dashboards win. If you are at ten sites, buy the enterprise suite and skip us until the retention layer is the specific problem.
