RetentionTek vs Mindbody
RetentionTek vs Mindbody
Mindbody is the largest booking and business platform in wellness: studios, gyms, salons, spas, with a consumer marketplace attached. It runs 12, 24 or 36-month auto-renewing terms, charges an early exit fee, and a reported export charge. RetentionTek is $199 monthly and measures returns. Mindbody brings clients; we keep them.
Where they are strong
Where Mindbody is strong
- A consumer marketplace that sends new clients to your listing, which no retention tool does.
- Breadth: booking, POS, memberships, contracts, staff and reporting in one system.
- Brand recognition strong enough that clients search for it by name.
- A published contract explainer, which is more transparency than most of the category offers.
- Deep membership and package handling for studios and spas that sell them.
Where we differ
Where RetentionTek differs
- Monthly. Mindbody terms run 12, 24 or 36 months, auto-renew, and need written notice at least 30 days before the end.
- An early exit fee applies mid-term. Ours is a cancel button with no fee.
- A reported data export charge of about $500 at cancellation. We export, and the visit history is yours.
- Published price. Mindbody prints a $79 floor and quotes the tiers; reported plans run from about $259 to $699 a month.
- Retention measurement. Mindbody reports revenue and attendance; it does not score who drifted.

Price reality
The term, the fee and the export
Mindbody publishes a $79 a month floor and quotes the tiers above it, with reported plans from about $259 to $699 a month. The term is 12, 24 or 36 months and renews automatically, with written notice due 30 days before the end.
- A 36-month term at a reported mid tier of about $299: roughly $10,764 committed.
- Leaving in month ten: an early exit fee applies on the remaining term.
- Exporting your data at cancellation: reported at about $500.
- RetentionTek: $199/mo for one location, monthly, no exit fee, export included.
A long term is a financing decision, not a moral one. What matters is that you can price the exit before you sign. Three numbers decide it: the term, the exit fee and the export charge. Ask for all three in writing, from anyone, including us.

Mindbody is the platform. The layer sits outside it
If Mindbody runs your studio, keep it. The marketplace is doing acquisition work nothing else here does. Export completed visits, import them, and the retention queue sits beside the calendar. Because we are monthly, testing the layer does not add a second term to the first.
Frequently asked questions
Practical answers
Does RetentionTek replace Mindbody?
No. Mindbody is a booking and business platform with a consumer marketplace. RetentionTek is a retention layer over imported visit history. Mindbody brings new clients in; we tell you which existing ones went quiet. Those are opposite ends of the same funnel.
Can I leave Mindbody early?
You can, and an early termination fee applies on the remaining term. Written notice is due at least 30 days before the term ends, otherwise it auto-renews. Read the notice clause before the month you intend to leave, not after.
Do I have to pay to export my data?
A data export charge of about $500 at cancellation is reported by third-party analyses. Mindbody publishes its own contract explainer, so check the current figure there. In RetentionTek the export is included and the visit history is yours.
How much does Mindbody cost?
The floor is published at $79 and the tiers are quoted. Reported 2026 plans run from about $259 to $699 a month, with processing and marketplace fees on top, including a 20% marketplace fee capped at $30 on a new client's first purchase. Treat the tiers as reported until you have a quote.
Does RetentionTek handle memberships?
No. Memberships, packages and contracts stay in Mindbody. We read completed visits and score return behaviour. If your retention problem is membership attrition specifically, the visit data still shows it, but the membership mechanics are not ours.
What file do you need?
A completed-visit export: customer identifiers, visit dates, attendance, location and service, up to 2 MiB, 5,000 rows and 80 columns. A class-attendance export works if it carries the same fields. A contact list without dates does not.
